WHAT YOU'LL DO

Researches, troubleshoots and develops system and manual procedures to increase the accuracy of payroll functions. Supervises, trains, and coordinates activities of payroll coordinators. Performs administrative payroll duties; however, these are secondary to payroll research, analysis, problem solving and supervision of the day-to-day operation of the department.

  • Supervises payroll and compliance personnel; assist with setting and enforcing department policies and rules including disciplinary issues, performance reviews, recognition and personnel issues.

  • Delegates workload and reviews performance to ensure all work is properly completed.

  • Oversees problem solving and troubleshooting of complex payroll, garnishment, child support, and levies.

  • Creates, maintains, and generates various reports for the department.

  • Checks accuracy of edits and makes wage adjustments as necessary.

  • Manages year-end reporting including W2 processing with W2 vendor.

  • Researches payroll laws, common practices, and other payroll-related topics to ensure compliance.

  • Participates in audits.

  • Participates in miscellaneous census reporting.

  • Performs departmental administrative duties, including maintaining all correspondence within department and between department and stores, making and fielding telephone calls.

  • Assists Payroll Manager with preparing departmental budget.

  • Maintains, balances, and researches variances in departmental budget for supplies, equipment maintenance, etc.

  • Analyzes cost against budget and calls appropriate accounting personnel with questions or errors.

  • Researches and answers complex payroll and P&L questions from Payroll Coordinators, District Managers, General Managers, etc.

  • Interprets payroll operating policies and procedures.

  • Analyzes payroll/personnel transactions for validity/accuracy in recording and reporting.

  • Ensures system and manual procedures are adequate for accurate payroll processing.

  • Develops and recommends procedure or system change to correct processing errors.

  • Assists Payroll Manager developing and aligning departmental goals and objectives.

  • Other duties as assigned.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED

  • High School diploma and 5 years of senior level experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business or Accounting preferred.

  • Workday experience required.

  • Supervisory skills.

  • Thorough knowledge of payroll.

  • Strong knowledge of operations and interdependencies of the payroll system with other departments and systems.

  • Strong knowledge of labor laws, IRS regulations, state, local, and federal taxes, and tip allocation.

  • Auditing skills.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
